Fort Young, Dominica

Let one of our specialists create your dream holiday at Fort Young. Call 020 3131 0169

At the edge of a cliff overlooking the Caribbean Sea, Fort Young sits on the original site of a wooden fort built by the French in 1720. You’ll be warmly welcomed at this unpretentious hotel where the emphasis is on good food, comfortable accommodation and providing an ideal location for seeing and experiencing the best of Dominica. Although there’s no beach here, many of the rooms are right on the water and the oceanfront pool has a lovely sundeck where you can relax and soak up the sun.

Location
On the waterfront, a couple of minutes’ walk from the centre of Roseau, the capital, and an hour’s drive from Melville Hall Airport.

Accommodation
71 air-conditioned rooms and suites with ceiling fan, TV, private balcony or terrace and many with full or partial sea views. Standard Rooms and Fort Rooms have been recently refurbished; Standard Rooms have garden or street views whilst the Fort Rooms have partial sea views and are located in the original fort. We particularly recommend the more spacious and well equipped Oceanfront Rooms and Suites, located in the newer wing at the base of the cliff with spectacular ocean views.

Facilities
The Waterfront Restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner in a lovely setting overlooking the sea; the Marquis Restaurant is located in the original fort section and hosts the weekly Caribbean buffet. There are 2 bars, an oceanfront swimming pool, 3 Jacuzzis, massage and wellness centre, yoga classes and duty free shops. Complimentary wireless internet access is available throughout the property. The hotel’s activities desk can arrange a whole host of excursions for those who would like a guided tour of the island or simply a driver for the day. Whale watching tours, snorkelling, kayaking, bird watching, hiking tours and more are readily available and there is also an excellent dive centre on site.

Special Information
Children under 12 yrs can be accommodated in Oceanfront or Deluxe Oceanfront Rooms only. Between November - April cruise ships are often moored opposite the hotel or at the nearby cruise terminal in Roseau.

What you need to know

• Fort Young is a charming, informal hotel with a fascinating history - some of the original stone walls date back to 1761 and the hotel takes its name from the island’s first British governor

• Although we recommend upgrading to an Oceanfront Room, the smaller Standard and Fort rooms have been nicely refurbished and are ideal if you’re simply looking for a comfortable base from which to explore the island

• Located just a short stroll from the centre of Roseau, be sure to explore the Old Market Plaza for souvenirs and local artwork
