View Larger Map The most vibrant and engaging of all the islands, Jamaica embodies the Caribbean spirit of fun, friendliness and outstanding hospitality. There’s so much character and diversity to Jamaica that we just know you’ll have a wonderful holiday here. It was our first destination when we started Caribtours in 1979 and still remains one of the most welcoming and hospitable places that you’ll ever visit. Think of Jamaica and you can’t help but think of bright sunshine, warm smiles, cricket, music and an effervescent culture. But there’s also the history, mountains, rivers and fabulous beaches. Then there’s the watersports, bustling markets, famous local beers and the ubiquitous ‘Jerk Chicken’. You can choose to stay in refined elegance in luxurious villas, or make a charming inn your base for an active holiday. Better still, why not let us recommend a two-centre stay so that you can experience the very best of Jamaica. Out and About Dunn’s River Falls There are many spectacular waterfalls on the island and various trips to get you there, but the most visited are the Dunn’s River Falls, one of Jamaica’s national treasures. We love these falls as you can climb them right to the top, but we strongly recommend that you avoid visiting when the huge crowds descend from the cruise ships. If you pick your time carefully, it’s possible to enjoy the falls in peace. Bob sledding in Mystic Mountain If you’re a thrill seeker looking for adventure, you’ll love this exhilarating ride in Mystic Mountain. Inspired by the famous Jamaican Olympic bobsled team, this custom-designed, high tech sled will whizz you down a 1000-metre long track, driven entirely by gravity. Hold on to your hat! Sample the rum on the Appleton Estate Located in the picturesque Nassau Valley in St Elizabeth, a tour of the Appleton Estate will take you on a journey through time to learn about the history of rum and to give you an inside look at how the finest rum in the world is made. You’ll also get to taste the quality rums which have been distilled here for over 250 years. Have a look round Firefly About 20 miles east of Ocho Rios, high up in the mountains, sits Firefly, once the Jamaican home of Sir Noel Coward, the famous English playwright, composer, director, and singer. Now managed by the Jamaican Heritage Trust, visitors can take a tour around the house and grounds. The original video footage of Coward and the faded photos of him with the Queen Mother, Sean Connery, Errol Flynn and Joan Sutherland really tell the story of the island’s glamorous past. Food and Drink There are so many great restaurants in Jamaica. Round Hill and Jamaica Inn are renowned for their gourmet cuisine and we can also recommend Café Aubergine,Toscanini, Almond Tree and Evita’s. You’ll be spoilt for choice in Montego Bay, with The Sugar Mill at Half Moon, Nikita’s or the Boat House Grill. Day-O Plantation and Ma Lou’s will treat you to authentic Jamaican flavours, or, at Negril, Norma’s on the Beach, Xtabi’s and the Pushcart at Rock House are all excellent. Getting There Total flying time to Montego Bay or Kingston is approximately 10 hrs. Flights are non-stop. British Airways Departures from Gatwick to Kingston 3 times a week in high season and weekly in low season. Virgin Atlantic Departures from Gatwick to Montego Bay 3 times a week.
