What you need to know

• Admiral Lord Nelson married Fanny Nisbet here in 1787 and Montpelier remains a wonderful location for a wedding today, with splendid locations such as the Great House or the tropical gardens to consider for your special day

• There's a surprising choice of dining options at this historical retreat, on those lethargic days you'll appreciate the casual Tapas option by the pool and when you're in the mood to 'go out for dinner' there's a real sense of occasion when you dine at the al fresco Restaurant 750

• The Mill with its original steps, floor and cut stone walls is a truly memorable setting for an intimate, romantic dinner
