For those who really like to get away from it all, St Vincent & The Grenadines offers enchanting hideaways of outstanding natural beauty.
As you fly across the sparkling turquoise waters and first catch a glimpse of this magical cluster of 32 tropical islands, you’ll know you are in for a very special holiday. With beautiful secluded beaches and unspoilt rainforests, St Vincent & The Grenadines is a truly romantic Caribbean paradise. The clear warm waters provide superb conditions for sailing and watersports, but you’ll also find glamorous resorts, colourful markets and wonderful restaurants. Everything, in fact, that you could need for the Caribbean holiday you’ve always dreamed of.
Out and About
Climb Soufrière Volcano
You may not have expected to find a 4,000 ft high active volcano on St Vincent, but the challenging climb to the top is well worth the effort as the views from the summit are spectacular. The three mile hike will take you through rainforest, bamboo groves and cloud forest before you reach the volcanic rock and ash-strewn rim of the huge, mile-wide crater.
Dark View Falls
If climbing a volcano isn’t for you, take a trip to the Dark View Falls which are situated at the southern foot of the Soufrière volcano. Set amongst tropical bamboo forest, these two beautiful waterfalls cascade down over the lava rocks. The lower falls can be easily reached via a bamboo bridge that spans the river, followed by a short trail through a shady grove where you will enjoy the refreshing spray from the falls. If you want to work a bit harder for your reward, the steeper trail climbs to the higher falls where there is a large pool, perfect for a cooling swim.
Old Hegg Turtle Sanctuary
If you’re not staying on Bequia, you should definitely try to visit this delightful little island. It has lots of charm and some good local restaurants, and the Old Hegg Turtle Sanctuary is a must. Here you can view the endangered hawksbill turtle hatchlings and learn about their conservation. A former seaman has dedicated his life to raising turtles from eggs deposited on nearby beaches and has strived to increase their survival rate by feeding and protecting them through their most vulnerable time, before safely releasing them back into the sea.
No visit to St Vincent & The Grenadines is complete without a sailing trip to the Tobago Cays. These five tiny, uninhabited islands boast some of the best sailing waters in the Caribbean due to the spectacular horseshoe reef which creates a calm, crystalline lagoon. The lagoon is a National Marine Park and a playground for green turtles which come to feed on the abundant seagrass. A catamaran tour through these stunning cays allows plenty of time for swimming, snorkelling and turtle watching.
Food and Drink
You’ll find that the quality of cuisine on the islands is extremely high, especially at the resorts. For dining out, we can recommend L’Auberge des Grenadines on the waterfront at Admiralty Bay in Bequia, Basil’s Bar and Firefly on Mustique or The Sapodilla Room at Grenadine House in St Vincent for elegant fine dining and wonderful views over Kingstown.
The most convenient route is via Barbados with onward LIAT connections to St Vincent and Canouan, or with Grenadine Airways shared or private charters to Bequia, Mustique and Union Island. Flying time from Barbados is approximately 40 minutes.
SVG Air also operates daily shared or private charter flights from Saint Lucia’s Hewanorra International Airport to St Vincent, Canouan, Bequia and Union Island and a weekly direct service from Grenada to Bequia.

St. Vincent’s Carnival, or Vincy Mas, has an identity all of its own. Kicking off with an official launching in May, carnival celebrations stretch all the way through to July, culminating in the world famous street parties of J’Ouvert and Mardi Gras. In between there are a whole host of wonderfully entertaining events such as the Miss SVG competition, the Soca Monarch Competition, Miss Carnival, the Junior Pan Fest and much more.
"I was excited to be returning to St Vincent and The Grenadines for another taste of what makes these 32 lush green islands the perfect Caribbean paradise."
