New York City Gallery Guide March 14, 2017

New York is such a cosmopolitan city, bursting with culture, cuisine, vitality - you name it, you will find it there. Being an important hub for galleries and museums, there is a dazzling array to choose from when it comes to all things artistic. Depending on your desired aesthetic - be it modern, contemporary, classical or eclectic this guide will have something for you!

1. Whitney Museum of American Art

Situated between the High Line and the Hudson River, this innovative museum was the first museum dedicated to the work of living American artists. Artists such as Jasper Johns and Cindy Sherman were given their first museum retrospectives by the Whitney. We are extremely excited about the Whitney Biennial 2017 which runs from 17 March - 11 June 2017, this exhibition will challenge viewers with a variety of mediums, which reference many of today's political and racial issues. It will be an exhibition not to miss!

2. MoMA

MoMA or Museum of Modern Art houses almost 200,000 works of modern and contemporary art. This space fosters creativity with inspirational pieces on show, and artists featured in their collection range from Ai Wei Wei to Francis Picabia. The dazzling space is well worth a visit, we would also recommend MoMA PS1, which showcases global experimental art - a true trendsetter for contemporary art.

3. Guggenheim

The Guggenheim collects, preserves and interprets modern and contemporary art. The building itself is a work of art being one of the most significant architectural icons of the 20th century. Our favourite exhibition at the moment is the Jackson Pollock: Exploring Alchemy exhibition, a celebrated icon of postwar abstraction that Peggy Guggenheim acquired through her financial support of the artist. His pieces are extremely evocative and iconic and the way this exhibition is curated is wonderful.

4. The Frick Collection

The Frick Collection is renowned for it distinguished array of Old Master paintings and outstanding examples of European sculpture and decorative arts. The impressive collection is housed in one of New York's only remaining Gilded Age mansions which used to belong to Henry Clay - the exhibition we were delighted to see was  'Turner’s Modern and Ancient Ports: Passages through Time' which runs until 14 May 2017.

5. Neue Galerie

This gorgeous museum is totally devoted to early twentieth-century German and Austrian art and design. The integral concept of this museum is to investigate the special relationship that existed between the fine arts and decorative arts. This museum is bursting with the intricate works of Egon Schiele and Gustav Klimt, it's absolutely beautiful.
