There are many reasons why we adore The Ritz-Carlton Abama on the beautiful island of Tenerife - here are some of our highlights from this dazzling resort.
One of the most child friendly resorts in Europe, The Ritz-Carlton Abama introduces children of all aged to the natural wonders and the rich cultural traditions of the Canary Islands. The new Ritz-Kids programme with explorer and environmentalist Jean-Michel Cousteau and his Ocean Futures Society. Based in the fabulous kids’ club and across the resort’s grounds, activities are pinned around land, water, culture and environmental responsibility. Sessions include identifying whales and sharks through team games and model-making, investigating the conservation of protected coral reefs and understanding the migration patterns of birdlife with practical lessons in renewable resources and recycling.
Gastronomy is an important part of the ‘Abama Experience’ with a selection of 12 restaurants and bars, led by Martín Berasategui’s M.B restaurant, with two Michelin stars, and the Japanese-fusion restaurant Kabuki, with one Michelin star. We highly recommend the Calzone from the Italian inspired Verona Restaurant and for desert, the profiteroles with praline and pistachio cream and cherry sorbet.
There are accommodation options to suit everyone at The Ritz-Carlton Abama with over 460 guest rooms and suites, divided between the Citadel (Main Hotel), Tagor Villas and Club Level. Each room and suite provides expansive space and simple yet elegant furnishing. For adults that seek privacy and proximity to the adults-only pool, I highly recommend the Villa Suites on the Ground Floor with ocean views and an intimate private garden.
If you can tear yourself away from the many pools, the unique beach at The Ritz-Carlton Abama provides a pristine haven at the foot of the resort, accessible by buggy or cable car, the beach is secluded and offers the perfect retreat to enjoy the many activities available including sailing and snorkelling. The Beach Club on hand, offers towels and refreshments plus light dining options and cocktails which can be enjoyed overlooking the stunning vistas of the Atlantic Ocean.
The Ritz-Carlton Abama is so much more than a golf resort but there is no denying that the Golf Course is the best on the island, the 18-hole course designed by Dave Thomas can be admired almost anywhere in the resort as the expansive course beautifully wraps around the resort. Electric buggies, equipped with a personal water cooler and GPS system, provide detailed information about each hole and aid in the navigation of the ever-changing Tenerife terrain which can be experienced solo, as a couple or as a member of Abama’s Golf Academy where beginners and experts alike can practise in a 5-hectare area with on hand assistance from the highly qualified golf professionals to aid players of every level. The course is complimented by the Clubhouse which is strategically located at the centre of the course. With pristine dressing rooms, an outdoor rest and relaxation lounge as well as a shop offering a full range of professional golf equipment and clothing, this is a golfers paradise. By night, the club house is transformed into an atmospheric and romantic area where the Japanese Restaurant, Kabuki comes to life.
