The Best of Costa Rica December 20, 2018

FUN FOR ALL THE FAMILY

Costa Rica’s diverse natural environment makes it the ideal adventure playground for kids. The enchanting wildlife is endlessly fascinating for both children and adults, there are ecosystems of all kinds, from mangrove-clad to mountainous, and the country is bursting with opportunity for adventure in the form of white water rafting, zip lining and trekking to waterfalls.

INCREDIBLE BIODIVERSITY

It may only cover 0.03 per cent of Earth’s surface area, but Costa Rica accounts for five per cent of the planet’s biodiversity. It’s got tumbling waterfalls, simmering volcanoes, untouched beaches and cloud-strewn forests. Sloths hang from treetops peering at passers-by, hummingbirds flit from flower to flower, turtles haul themselves in from the ocean, and chattering monkeys leap from branch to branch.

NATIONAL PARKS GALORE

Over a quarter of the land is protected in Costa Rica. Hike through the rainforests of Arenal National Park as its namesake volcano looms ominously in the background; stroll along the sands of Manuel Antonio National Park’s emerald-edged beaches; and canoe through the canals and wetlands of Tortuguero National Park, spotting dozens of species of birds, amphibians and mammals.

SAND AND SEA

It’s not all rainforest adventures here; the country boasts a wealth of beaches, from white-sand paradises where you can snorkel and sunbathe, to swathes of black-sand kissed by dancing waves. The country’s dazzling biodiversity extends beyond the shoreline – beneath the turquoise waters you’ll spot colourful fish, coral reef, manta rays, octopus and even dolphins and whales.

Half Moon

Jamaica

You’ll be following in some very famous royal footsteps when you check in at this iconic hotel - the Queen, Prince Charles and, most recently, Prince Harry have all enjoyed Half Moon’s legendary Jamaican hospitality.

With 400 acres to explore, the best way to get around Half Moon is by bike - the pedal-back brakes take a bit of getting used to but they’re great fun once you’ve got the hang of it.

At over 60 years old, Half Moon might be getting on a bit, but she still likes to look her best - the Sugar Mill Restaurant and lobby area were refurbished last year and the Oleander section of the resort is now receiving a full makeover.
