Sri Lanka comes alive with colourful celebrations during the spectacular annual Esala Perahera Festival, celebrating the sacred Tooth Relic. The festival takes place in the city of Kandy from 29 July – 08 August 2017 and witnessing the festivities in full swing is a once in a lifetime cultural experience. We can think of no better time to escape to this unique Indian Ocean island for the ultimate summer holiday.
The Festival
Esala Perahera Festival is a magnificent pageant through the streets of Kandy, the country’s spiritual heart, that involves elephants adorned in beautiful cloths and decorations, as well as incredible drummers and professional dancers. A true spectacle in every way, the festival showcases Sri Lankan culture, spirituality and colour at its finest. There are some short and long parades over the festival and the atmosphere is incredible throughout.
Where To Stay In Kandy
Hotel Cinnamon Citadel is one of our favourite luxury hotels in Kandy with fantastic service. Make sure you enjoy dinner one evening on the hotel veranda overlooking the pool, with the river and forest in the background – the views are breathtaking.
