Day 1
Arrive into Colombo and transfer to Sigiriya (approximately 4-5 hours by car) for a 3-night stay at Jetwing Vil Uyana.
Day 2
Explore Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka’s first capital. Sights include the sacred Bo-Tree and the Samadhi Buddha statue, one of the island’s most famous statues of Buddha in a state of deep meditation.
Day 3
This morning climb the 5th-century Sigiriya rock, rising 200 metres from the jungle. In the afternoon, transfer to Polonnaruwa to view its ancient sights. The island’s medieval capital, it is a World Heritage Site and many of the ruins are in excellent condition.
Day 4
Today you’ll visit Dambulla Cave Temple, a series of caves containing over 150 images of Buddha. Then head on to Matale to tour a spice garden. Continue to Kandy and check in at The Kandy House for a 2-night stay.
Day 5
Spend a leisurely morning at the Royal Botanical Garden of Peradeniya, taking in its fernery, lily pond and orchid house. Later, return to Kandy to drive around the lake and visit the town bazaar, an arts and crafts centre and gem museum. In the evening, visit The Temple of the Tooth Relic followed by a cultural show.
Day 6
Drive through beautiful hill country to Hatton and check in at Ceylon Tea Trails for a 2-night stay.
Day 7
See tea being hand-picked, learn how it is processed and sample different grades of tea. Afternoon at leisure.
Day 8
Take a scenic drive (approximately three hours and 30 minutes) to Yala National Park, stopping at the Elephant Transit Home in Udawalawe National Park en-route. Its objective is to rehabilitate orphaned elephant calves to return them to the wild. Spend the next two nights at Chena Huts.
Day 9
Enjoy game drives in Yala National Park, the largest in Sri Lanka. The park is home to wild elephants, buffaloes, leopards and crocodiles, as well as large flocks of migratory and indigenous birds.
Day 10
This morning, head to Galle (approximately four hours’ drive). Take a city tour of Galle, the old chief port of Ceylon, including The Dutch Museum and the Dutch Church. Overnight at Taru Villas Lighthouse Street.
Day 11
Transfer to Colombo for your flight home, or extend your stay at one of our selected hotels.
