Facilities

Nature is a huge part of Castara’s appeal and the hotel is set in two acres of tropical gardens which offer excellent opportunities for bird and wildlife watching. The beach is just a few minutes’ walk away down a winding footpath and is a great spot for swimming, sunbathing or just getting to know the friendly locals. Castara Bay has a wonderful reef, teeming with life and colour, and the snorkelling here is particularly enjoyable. Yoga classes and massage treatments are available on request, and for those wanting to get out and about to explore the island, a wide variety of activities can be arranged, such as rainforest walks, birdwatching, island tours and boat trips.

Important Information

The accommodation at Castara is located on a hillside and is not recommended for guests with walking difficulties. There is a small fee, payable locally, for the rental of sun loungers on the beach. There is a cash machine in Castara and credit cards are accepted at the hotel, but guests are advised to travel with sufficient cash for the duration of their stay.

Fiona's View

OUR Tobago SPECIALIST

"If you’re seeking an authentic Caribbean experience, you needn’t look further than Castara Retreats - supporting the local community is an important part of the hotel ethos and guests are encouraged to visit the bars and restaurants in the village and get to know the friendly locals."

"Castara Retreats provides a tranquil refuge for both humans and wildlife - the surrounding area is home to more than 200 species of birds, including boobies, frigate birds and osprey."

"Each of Castara’s apartments and lodges has a unique appeal, but we particularly like the one-bedroom Beachscape - it’s one of the closest to the beach and has fantastic views of Castara Bay from its private terrace."

"Be sure to watch the local fishermen haul their daily catch onto the beach, whilst stingrays gather in the shallow clear waters to catch any fish that get away."

Jamaica

"You’ll be following in some very famous royal footsteps when you check in at this iconic hotel - the Queen, Prince Charles and Prince Harry have all enjoyed Half Moon’s legendary Jamaican hospitality."

"With 400 acres to explore, the best way to get around Half Moon is by bike - the pedal-back brakes take a bit of getting used to but they’re great fun once you’ve got the hang of it."

"At 65 years old, Half Moon might be getting on a bit, but she still likes to look her best - the Sugar Mill Restaurant and lobby area were refurbished last year and the soon-to-be-open East Cove will feature two new restaurants, three bars, an adult-only swimming pool, swimming lagoon and much more."
